Business Manager

ORGANIZATION: Bread of Life Mission is a non-denominational, Christian, social services organization, which provides critically needed goods and services to the homeless, poor, and needy of Washington State without regard to race, color, sexual orientation, creed, national origin, or religion.
SUMMARY OF POSITION: Bread of Life Mission’s Business Manager (BM) is responsible for overseeing Bread of Life Mission’s (BOLM’s) business operations while providing strategic and hands-on leadership for human resources functions. This role ensures operational efficiency, financial stability, and a positive, compliant workplace culture. The Business Manager works closely with leadership to align people, processes, and performance with organizational goals. The BM will provide supervision and oversight to ensure safe BOLM facilities, vehicles, and phone and IT systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Uphold, promote, and encourage, in word and deed, desired organizational culture and core values; purposefully seed to establish and maintain a culture that affirms and advances BOLM’s mission statement, vision, and values.
Business and Finance
Manage all daily financial transactions, reconcile bank and credit card statements, generate financial statements, and process bi-weekly payroll and ensure tax compliance.
Collaborate with the CEO and department heads to develop an annual budget, developing reports to keep them informed of spending.
Responsible for departmental budget development, fiscal management, and working with contracted vendors.
Manage budgets, financial planning, forecasting, and cost control.
Analyze business performance data and prepare reports for leadership and the board.
Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and operational resources.
Work with the CEO to ensure the mission is insured adequately and manage the relationship with our insurance company.
Participate in timely and accurate reporting according to BOLM needs and expectations, keep CEO informed and demonstrate commitment to open communication to fully participate in organizational problem-solving, decision-making, and strategic planning.
Human Resources
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of staffing, including hiring, evaluating, discipline, and dismissal.
Responsible for staying informed and in compliance regarding equal employment, local, state, and federal regulations.
Oversee payroll coordination, benefits administration, and compensation practices.
Work collaboratively with the executive team to coordinate staff training, development, and performance evaluations.
Ensure support of department heads in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and hiring staff.
Collaborate with the CEO to ensure BOLM has appropriate compensation, benefits, recognition, and work-life balance for employees.
Responsible for ensuring employee safety and health programs and Worker’s Compensation.
Responsible for employee relations, including relationships of employees with the organization and with each other. Also includes policies, investigations, employee relations, and employee rights.
Facilities
Collaborate with CEO and Program Director to define goals, objectives, and best practices for all facilities and shelter processes, ensuring grant compliance and organizational alignment as appropriate.
Responsible for budget development, fiscal management, and working with contracted vendors.
Ensure that all facilities are in good repair and that BOLM meets all OSHA requirements.
Establish and maintain schedules and procedures for health and safety inspections of facilities.
Supervise and coordinate with staff to develop and carry out a preventative maintenance schedule for all equipment and facilities, including the routine inspection of all smoke detectors and alarms.
Oversee the fire drill and emergency evacuation procedures and schedule practice drills appropriately.
Establish and maintain standard operations procedures (SOPs) to define clear and consistent expectations and promote effective operations.
Responsible to ensure that the BOLM fleet is safe, clean, operational, and maintained in accordance with BOLM policies. Supervise all drivers, develop maintenance schedules, complete, and submit accident reports, and maintain all records.
Conduct and attend meetings and perform other related duties as requested.
Lead and participate in devotions, prayer, teaching, or Bible study with staff and program participants.
Work collaboratively with community and government agencies.
Special projects as assigned.

Valid WA state driver’s license and insurance, with the means and ability to travel in Seattle and the surrounding area to meet with donors.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Management, Accounting, or related field.
Five (5) + years responsibility in a leadership role
Comprehensive knowledge of accounting processes.
Effective in researching and analyzing data.
Demonstrated knowledge of human resources.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:
Work is performed in a typical interior office within an emergency shelter/transitional housing environment with occasional outside work required.
Must have a valid WA driver’s license and be able to operate a vehicle.
Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. occasionally.
Work requires talking, standing, walking, sitting, pulling, pushing, reaching, crouching, carrying and other fine motor skills.
Requires occasional prolonged mental acuity working on a computer screen.
